TransCanada Power Plant – The proposed 950-megawatt power plant that has been challenged by JCRA and many individuals and organizations in the Oakville community for a year and more is now officially cancelled by Premier McGuinty. JCRA participated alongside C4CA, the leading organization is this challenge, together with officials of the Town of Oakville and other levels of government and resident associations in both Oakville and Mississauga in this defeating this highly inappropriate facility that would have adversely impacted on the quality of life in the community.
While the power plant project has been cancelled, JCRA is continuing to support various initiatives to prevent future re-occurrence of proposals on this scale including the Town of Oakville (Air Quality By-Law), an MPP’s private members bill to set out conditions for power plant placements and recommendations from a government-initiated study.
