Committee of Adjustment requests

JCRA’S direction is that development should be done within the bylaws that govern development, re development and accessory buildings unless extenuating circumstances such as grandfathered boundaries exist. The goal of our involvement will be to ensure that variances are not being granted that will change the streetscape and or character of our neighbourhood or set future precedents.  This includes protecting the tree canopy, a feeling of spaciousness, the enjoyment of surrounding properties and designs consistent with the character of the neighbourhood as a whole.   Equally important we will speak to safety and traffic concerns that may arise from variance requests.

JCRA  delegations to  the Committee of Adjustment are not for or against individual property owners  but rather done with a view of supporting the direction noted above

Here are some updates.

2012 Budget Process

JCRA will continue to monitor the Town budget process and will be updating its members on neighbourhood issues such as will bus #25  be on the chopping block or has ridership increased? Will dollars be allocated for the purchase of Chisholm school ?  Will the new Master Plan now targeting for release on Nov 25th support a community centre ? Where will the development dollars from all the growth on Cornwall be spent? Stay tuned.

Neighboring Association

Chartwell Maple Grove Residents Association is taking the lead on raising questions with the Town on evaluating Town taxes. A director has done extensive research into how Oakville compares to other towns in Ontario.  If you have an interest in getting actively involved in this area they would welcome your participation. alsmurphy@hotmail.com

Survey about Community Centres in SE Oakville

In May/June 2011, JCRA conducted a survey of residents to find out their views about Community Centres. Its objective was to determine residents' opinions and beliefs about a community centre for SE Oakville – what should be a part of it, where it may be located, and issues that accompany this development. We appreciate everyone who responded and also those who made their views known in telephone calls, emails and conversations. The Community Centre issue is important and as you will read below, the survey confirmed there is overwhelming support for a community centre below the QEW. Read the rest of this entry »
